Apply for freshman

The following application materials are required for ALL freshman applicants:

  • The online application: Freshman applicants for fall 2023 can choose to submit either the Common App or ApplyTexas applications. This application should include your complete academic record, including any college credit earned as dual credit during high school.
  • Application fee: A non-refundable $75 application fee ($90 for international applicants) must be paid when submitting your application.
  • Essay: Along with your application, you must submit at least one essay.
  • Short answers: Answer the required short answer prompts in your Common App or ApplyTexas applications.
  • High school transcript(s) and class rank: Work with your high school to send your official transcript(s) that document all coursework completed during high school, as well as your class rank. If your high school does not rank students, include a statement from your school explaining its policy, a copy of your school’s profile, and a GPA or grade distribution report. International students should refer to the requirements on the “International Applicants” tab.
  • Any college transcript(s): If you have earned any college credit, including dual credit, while in high school, request that the college or university send official transcripts to UT Austin.

Additionally, there may be additional materials required depending on your circumstances, such as major-specific items, a permanent resident card (if applicable), TOEFL/IELTS scores (if applicable), a student information form, a coursework exemption form, and a residency affidavit.

There are also optional materials that are not required but will be considered if submitted by the appropriate deadline. These include SAT/ACT scores, SAT Subject Tests, an expanded résumé, and letter(s) of recommendation.

To track the status of your application and submit additional documents, you can use the MyStatus portal. It is important to regularly check MyStatus and complete any outstanding tasks before the application deadlines.
