To have your application reviewed for admission at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, you must ensure that it is submitted with the non-refundable application fee or fee waiver, and all supporting documents must reach the admissions office by the specified deadline. It is strongly recommended to allow sufficient time for materials to arrive.

If there are any outstanding materials, they will be listed under “Tasks” on your “To Do List” in your MyUW Student Center.

Here are the application and materials deadlines for first-year applicants and transfer applicants:

First-Year Applicants:

  • Spring Regular Decision: Application deadline – October 1*, Materials deadline – October 8*
  • Fall Early Action: Application deadline – November 1*, Materials deadline – November 8*
  • Fall Regular Decision: Application deadline – January 15*, Materials deadline – January 22*

Transfer Applicants:

All applications and required materials must be received by the admissions office by 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time on the specified deadline dates.

Please note that it may take up to 72 hours for the system to reflect your submitted application, and you will receive an email acknowledging its receipt on the next business day.

If you submit your application within 5 days of the deadline, you will not receive a reminder for missing materials.

Early Action is a non-binding decision plan. You will receive your admissions decision earlier but are not required to commit until the national deadline of May 1*.

  • *If a deadline falls on a weekend, it is extended to the next business day.

The required application materials for both first-year and transfer applicants include items such as the admissions application, application fee, essays, course, and grade information, a letter of recommendation, and English language proficiency scores (if applicable). Optional materials may include ACT and SAT scores.

Please note that the application requirements are the same for all students, regardless of their academic major/area of interest. However, if you wish to be considered for direct admission to a program in dance or music, there are additional application and audition requirements.
