Applicants to the University of Pretoria must adhere to the provided application guidelines.

Instructions for Using the Application:

  • Ensure that you meet the browser prerequisites, requiring IE versions 7 and 8 or later, for accessing the website.
  • During the online application process, you will be asked to provide your email address for communication purposes from the University of Pretoria.
  • Take care to avoid any grammatical errors when entering your email address.
  • If needed, create a new Gmail account with a fresh email address.
  • South African applicants should include their South African National ID number, while international applicants should provide their passport number.
  • For international applicants, an ID or visa will be required for verification purposes.
  • When applying for a postgraduate degree, you need to provide information about your previous degrees, including the type of degree, the institution, and the year of graduation.
  • Scan and upload a fully certified academic record and a behavior certificate.
  • Additional or original documents may be requested depending on specific admission requirements.

Uploading and Scanning Supporting Documents:

  • Each required document should be scanned into a separate PDF file using the PDF file format. This can be done by yourself or through third-party services like specific cameras or photographic shops.
  • Follow the guidelines for preparing files for upload and use CutePDF or Acrobat (not Acrobat Reader) to save the scanned documents.
  • Any document in PDF format can be uploaded with your application.
  • These PDF files should be accessible on electronic media such as a data disk, memory stick, or desktop for submitting any additional files required during the application process.

Please note that the University of Pretoria reserves the right to reject or revoke admission if incorrect, incomplete, illegible, or fraudulent documents are submitted.

What happens after submitting the application?

  • Once your application has been processed, the University of Pretoria will send you instructions on how to access your Student Centre through the UP Student Portal. This portal allows you to track the progress and status of your application, receive messages, and complete any pending tasks.

Allocation of Student Number:

  • If you applied online, your student number will be sent to your email inbox within 15 working days. Please note that the application number does not grant access to the student portal. Once you have a student number, you can create a profile and register as a new user on the portal.
